Hailing from Cancun, Mexico, Holographist performs fresh, emotive progressive metal.
It's not very often that you hear about a metal band coming out of Cancun - a place known for its vibrant nightlife and party culture. However, the members of Holographist felt compelled to put Cancun on the map with something that seems somewhat outside of the conventional: a prog metal project that would have a modern feel with the sounds that surround.
When Stefano "Meshjartaract" Falcucci and Derek Valencia (also known as D. Grymes) were jamming out with some friends, they met guitarrist Diego Dipp (Rainals, Indra). As they began playing together, and perhaps unbeknownst to them, Holographist was conceived. They knew something clicked, so they decided to stay in touch.
After various reunions and a few demos, Stefano and Diego decided to approach Derek with a proposal to add him to the mix. He quickly accepted and they began to work together on what would become the first couple of tracks of their first album. The opener "Oxygenate" would become so significant for them that they felt inspired to write something to follow it up with. So they did.
With a particularly keen focus on unifying heavy, rhythmic sections with meaningful and inquisitive lyrics, they wrote a second track titled "Elemental", which cemented the idea of a concept album, named "No Gaps In Between" - a soundtrack exploring the musings of an artificially intelligent, genetically altered species that begins to question the nature of its existence, its timely collapse, and its inevitable progression into bliss.
A few years in, bassist Luis David (member of Rainals and mastermind behind Indra) flirted with the idea of playing and rehearsing with Holographist. It very quickly made sense to all four of them for him to join as the official bassist. "We're just super stoked to have him on board," said Derek in a brief interview, "his songwriting skills are fucking on point and he's just overall a great addition to the team."
They made an appearance at the NAMM '24 show as artists endorsed by Xolo Custom Guitars and played some material by Rainals, Indra and Holographist. They are expected to visit the NAMM show in 2025 and play some never before heard material exclusively for NAMM show attendees.
Their latest single, "L'Enigme", journeys further into heavier territory while also bringing something fresh to the genre - a few different switch ups that keep listeners engaged until the very end.
